Outdoor Nature

In 2008, the parcel of land that that Abbey Centre now sits on was purchased by the Town of Blackfalds from a local resident. This site has a long history which includes previously being a small greenhouse called Blackfalds Nursery.  A lot of care was taken when the Abbey Centre was designed and built to preserve as much of the trees and vegetation as possibly could be.

In an effort to enhance our green spaces and educate the future generation on the benefits of nature, the Abbey Centre also features garden boxes that come alive with vibrant flowers and fresh vegetables during the summer months. Located along the west side of our entry road, these gardens are lovingly cared for by participants and leaders from our Camp Curious day camp program. Each season, children experience the rewarding journey of planting, tending, and harvesting while helping create a beautiful and productive garden for all to enjoy.

Being blessed with over 10 acres of land, our site has many deciduous and evergreen trees and because of this, we are very fortunate to have wildlife often visit our site. Whether you are strolling our trails, enjoying the amphitheatre or enjoying a picnic, chances are you will have company on your visit!
